Commune | Cathedral Grain Burl Mahogany Dining Table
Commune was made for the part of a home where people return to one another. Handcrafted in Barbados from locally sourced mahogany, this one-of-one dining table allows the natural weight, movement and character of the timber to remain fully visible. Its expansive top retains a richly figured live edge, deep grain and the markings formed over the life of the tree.
At one end, a sculptural opening crossed by individually shaped wooden slats interrupts the solid burl edge mahogany surface. This detail gives Commune its distinct identity, balancing the substantial scale of the table with a sense of movement and openness. Two slab legs and a central stretcher, made out of solid red oak, create a strong, grounded base without distracting from the top.
Measuring 82 inches long, Commune seats six comfortably and can accommodate up to eight if required. It was developed over several weeks of shaping, refining and finishing, whilst preserving the natural beauty and cathedral grain of the timber as far as feasible. Knots, tonal shifts and irregular edges are part of the finished work.
Commune belongs in a considered dining space where craftsmanship, material and permanence matter. It is sculptural furniture made to be used: a place for meals, conversation and the rituals that bring people together.
